Our second regular season tournament and Classic Swap-Up Challenge Qualifier was held on May 5, 2012 at Lake Oconee.  Our host  was the SAV-A-Lot BP on Hwy 44.  We had a great breakfast and got all our bait and tackle needs taken care of by the great staff at Save-A-Lot.  The weather was kind to us again with warm temps but  a good breeze to help.  The full moon had another wave of crappie trying to spawn one more time before the water gets too warm.  Dark colored males and females with tales all beat up was a dead give away.  The previous spawned out crappie have begun to put a little weight back on and are feeding pretty aggressively.  Water temps were 75 - 81 over most of the lake with a very light stain to almost clear.  Dock shooting brought the biggest crappie to the scales, but long line trolling took second place and big fish too.  Was great to see all the new faces to put with a screen name on Crappie.com as well as a new member that is a well known crappie angler and tournament angler too that has relocated to our area.  Welcome again.

Congrats to the winners!

Ricky Willis & Troy Thiel pulled out some big slabs from docks and brush piles and made some long runs between those docks and brush piles.  They fished waters from 5-20' deep with 8' being the best depth and used Sugar Bug jigs that Ricky makes.  They also picked up some very important points in the Team of the Year points race and closed the gap to 7 points behind in second place YTD.

Second Place

Buddy Peacock & Ray Mayo long line trolled to catch their big fish after spidderrigging early in the day.  They focused on humps in the major creek mouths to catch their larger fish.  They went through a lot of small fish too.

Third Place

Scott and Billy Williams spiderrigged brush piles and shot docks in the major creeks and on the main lake.  They had to weed through a lot of small fish also.  They used their Humminbird Side Imaging and Big Bite Baits to find and catch their fish and covered a lot of water on tournament day.
