Blackshear Classic - December 7, 2013

This year has flown by, and the Classic proved to be the toughest tournament of the year.  Weather, lack of aggressive fish in places they normally hide, and unusually clear water all played a part.  Water temps hung out in the 50's and mostly cloudy skies were dominant for most of the week leading up to the tournament.  Air temps steadily dropped from daylight through the afternoon instead of the normal warming trend.  The weigh-in sheet shows just how varied the bite was for teams long line trolling, spider rigging, and single pole jigging or dock shooting.

Congratulations to Robert Sellers and Tommy Sellers who weighed in the heaviest seven crappie at 8.36 lbs.  They spider rigged various jigs and minnows in the upper end of the lake and topped off their stringer with a slab weighing 1.81 lbs.  2nd Place was taken by B'n'M Pro Staff team of Scott Williams and Billy Williams weighing 7.47 lbs. with Big Fish of the tournament weighing 2.25 lbs. too.  They also spider rigged the upper end.  3rd Place went to Paul Vantongern and Jonathan Stanton weighing 6.29 lbs.  They covered a lot of water to catch their weigh-in fish and mainly tight lined jigs and minnows.  4th Place was 2013 Points Champions Lamar Young and Justin Churchwell with 5.96 lbs. and 5th Place was 2012 Points Champions Jason Little and Craig Chapman with 5.77 lbs. Slow and low was the only pattern that emerged from pre-fishing and tournament day.

Thank you to all those who came out to participate and to those who came to watch.  Your support is greatly appreciated.  2014 is a new season, and may see some big changes.  Our email is open 24/7 for anyone with ideas and thoughts about growing and improving our trail.  The fish eat every day.  Can you catch them everyday?  Come out and show us, and learn more than you think.  You will become a better angler.

Thank you to Leroy's One Stop Bait and Tackle for being awesome hosts.  They always have what the anglers need and a lot of good info and good conversation too.  Also, a big thank you to Taser Jigs,, Rag Fly Jigs, B'n'M, Jiffy Jigs, EZT Pole Perch, Crappie Town & Bobby Garland Baits, Ocmulgee Timber, and Five Star Automotive Group.
