Lake Jackson - March 01, 2014

Our 3rd tournament of the season was on a new to us lake as far as tournaments.  A lot of our anglers have fished on Lake Jackson for many years.  It was a interesting change to the normal run of lakes each year.  Our anglers had to adapt to a slower warming lake that had a clear to a light stain.  The recent cold front didn't help keep the fish active either.  The active fish were either moving each day or just not active consecutive days.  Most anglers were having to move around a lot during prefishing trying to find a pattern that would last longer than a few hours.  The fish wanted to go shallow, but just wouldn't stay with the cold water temps around 48-53 degrees all over the lake.  15 teams entered the tournament.  They brought 98 crappie to the scales weighing 93.86 lbs., which averaged .96 lbs. each.  The average weight of the team's Big Fish was 1.41 lbs.  $1,585.00 in cash and prizes were paid out to the top 6 teams and Big Fish winners.  Prizes included B'n'M, Taser Jigs, and Jiffy Jigs gift cards too.  Congrats guys and gals!

Congratulations to the Slab Slobber team of Richard Malcom and Brian Cooper.  They weighed in the heaviest 7 fish at 9.01 lbs.  Jackson is their home lake.  They have fished just about every one of the 1,000s of docks on this lake, not to mention the 1,000s of tree tops and brush piles scattered all over the lake.  They planed on fishing that pattern for this tournament, but had to resort to long line trolling to try and keep up with the ever changing moods of the fish.  They found the combination of Slab Slobber on Taser Jigs and Ol Shoot Bank Hybrid Grubs trolled in big coves was the best method.  They targeted the feeding fish which were holding in 8-15 feet of water and suspended 5-7 feet down.  They said their best colors were Blue/Chartreuse Green and Black/Pink/Yellow.  This win moved them up a few spots in the Points Race too.

Second place was taken by Paul Johnson and Greg Hanson with 8.76 lbs.  They also had the overall Big Fish of the day at 1.95 lbs.  Paul and Greg are now the points leaders with three more tournaments to go.  Can they hold on to the lead?????

Third place was Randy Temples and Ricky Burgamy who weighed in with 7.66 lbs.  4th was Pat Welch and Jerry Stanton with 7.65 lbs. 5th place was Charles Wood and Alan McGinnis with 7.12 lbs. Sixth place was the top Male/Female team of Tim and Cathy Langham who weighed in 7.03 lbs.

Thank you to all those who came out to participate and to those who came to watch.  Your support is greatly appreciated.  2014 is shaping up to be another great season.  The points race is under way and it will be a tight one until the end.  Best 5 out of 6 will be used to determine the overall winners.  Just because you have a low weight at one tournament doesn't take you out of contention.

Just food for thought.  The fish eat every day.  Can you catch them everyday?  Come out and show us, and learn more than you think.  You will become a better angler.

Thank you to Hwy 36 Valero, Jones Petroleum, Reasor's Landing, and The Wing Depot for being great hosts.  They have it all covered for any one visiting Lake Jackson for fishing or just to enjoy the lake.  Also, a big thank you to Taser Jigs, Slab Slobber,, B'n'M, Jiffy Jigs, EZT Pole Perch, Crappie Town & Bobby Garland Baits.
